In a world of consumption, how can we cultivate a heart of compassion? As we look through the Bible, we witness God’s heart for the poor, marginalized, broken, and helpless. Over the course of 24 hours, we want to help our students expand their understanding of poverty and to assist them as they develop their own beliefs about tangible ways they can respond. We want to challenge students and families to take clear steps in developing their own approach to social justice in Kankakee County and beyond!
Compassion Weekend will begin with dinner on Friday, July 27. It will conclude with a debriefing activity on Saturday afternoon, July 28. On Friday, parents are invited and encouraged to participate during our Hunger Banquet. Students will be spending the night at GatheringPoint. Breakfast and Lunch will be provided. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor David.
During the weekend, we'll be partnering with local agencies who serve the homeless in our community by providing crisis care kits with basic care supplies. You can get involved too. Please help us by providing any of the following supplies:
Medium-size bottle of shampoo 12-18 oz (tape flip-tops closed)
Deodorant (gender neutral)
Bars of soap (bath size or larger)
Medium toothpaste (4.0-6.4 oz)
Toothbrushes (in original packaging)
Box of Band-Aids (30 or more)
Sturdy hair comb
Pocket size package of facial tissue
Laundry Detergent (trial size)
Please bring all supplies to the Kids Welcome Desk by Sunday, July 22.
