Is there more to my story? - Week 3
We all know we can look to our future and say tomorrow I will write a new story, a new future. I’ll go after my dreams, tomorrow, tomorrow, because tomorrow is only a day away.
Perhaps each of us have some chapters in our life that we like to talk about and are proud of. Some chapters have caused pain and other chapters we’d like to eliminate or change, but we can’t. Which leads us to wonder. Is there be more to my story?
We believe that God is writing a bigger story in your life, your family’s life, and friend’s life.
When we read the New Testament, we find that there are three sections: Gospels, Acts, and Epistles. They are primarily Paul’s work— where he created language to describe the significance of what Christ did, along with how we are to live that out.
The most familiar terms are ones like: “Jesus died for us,” “Jesus forgave our sin,” and “Jesus paid for our sin.”
There are some phrases and chapters that take the significance of Christ’s death much further. That is where we run into phrases like: “In him,” “Through him,” and “Christ in me.” Most of that makes no sense, because we aren’t exactly sure how to do that. Conceptually yes, but does that make a difference practically? We sort of shrug our shoulders.
In his letter to the Christians in Rome, Paul talks specifically about the significance of Christ’s death as it relates to our struggles with sin. His point is this: Sin doesn’t control where you go when you die. Sin doesn’t have to control what you do while you live.
But for many it does. For Paul it did.
